My penchant for mountains have continued for quite a while now and it’s amusing that I have not explored much around Karnataka which hosts some of the beautiful views. So when I heard about Kodachadri trek I knew I had to go. A night of disrupted sleep left me half angry and irritated but one glance of the delightful view outside made me all gleeful.
Simple malenadu breakfast provided the much-needed energy and all of us geared up for the adventurous day ahead.
The route starts with an easy walk through the mud road which connects to the jeep route(provided you do not take the vehicle to the start point). An hour of walk bought us to the start point of the trail. The initial phase of the trek is enjoyable and relaxing. One passes through the thick forest which opens to glorious paddy fields. The greenery is both calming and pleasing to the eyes.
We were to reach the peak via Hindumane falls. The path to the falls is quite slippery but nonetheless we made it to the beautiful place in no time.
The second leg of the trek is the challenging part as the trail gets steeper and this continues for most part of the trail. The Shola forests start to appear on one side with Sharavati backwaters on the other. The second leg comes to an end with the trail connecting to the jeep route.
One of the best things about travel are the people you meet.I am always surprised with the ease people bond when amongst the nature than within concrete buildings. The cool breeze, delicious home made food and amazing views with entertaining bunch of people was a perfect weekend luncheon.
Distance seems farther when you are nearer to the destination. The last 2 kms was longer than expected. We were surrounded completely by mist when we reached the summit and the view was hardly seen but still the happiness of conquering yet another peak prevailed. The peak not only attracts trekkers but also is a place of religious significance. One sees a lot of devotees in large numbers around the peak.
It saddened me to see the summit point being littered by both trekkers and the devotees.I wonder how one feels devotional or can appreciate the surroundings when you see trash around? When one decides to trek the responsibility of keeping the trail plastic and garbage free automatically comes along. The rule is to leave the nature as it is – pristine and clean.
The bouncy turbulent jeep ride was adventurous which disarranged the bones in the body. There were no strangers anymore and conversations till midnight ended our venturous day.
This blog is incomplete without the mention of my mad+adventurous duo without whom the trek would not be exciting or comfortable. I still remember the Kudremukh trek when these guys started out new and they have come a long way.It is a joy to watch your friends succeed on a path less travelled. If you’re wondering where and how to trek, click the link below to like the page and keep yourself updated on the upcoming treks.
